What’s Up, Tigard? – Leadership Tigard, Advocacy and Cozy Season

Welcome to this week’s edition of What’s Up, Tigard?, your Friday rundown of how the Tigard Chamber has been championing local business and community vitality. From energizing networking events to behind-the-scenes advocacy at City Hall and beyond, we’ve packed a lot into the past few days and we’re excited to share the highlights with you. Grab your favorite drink and settle in for a quick read, and see how the Tigard Chamber has been working for you and the broader Tigard community.

New week, new roof! We are so excited about our brand-new roof! Thank you for your flexibility while we made this important update to our building. Be sure to check out the newly updated floors in Symposium Coffee as well.

Tuesday was the first day of class for our 2025-26 Leadership Tigard cohort. The group kicked things off with a bang as they executed SIMSOC, a “game” used by groups to teach various aspects of sociology, political science, and communications skills. We had a handful of our Leadership Tigard alumni join us as well as our Board Director Tanya Christensen. It was a great way to start off the program!

Megan and Makenna attended the City Council meeting on Tuesday night where they officially swore in the new Mayor, Yi-Kang Hu. Mayor Hu currently sits on our Diversity and Community Engagement Committee, where he advocates for equity and inclusion in the local business community. Council will discuss the process for filling his vacant council seat at the meeting on October 21st.

We held a Business Listening Session on Wednesday alongside the City of Tigard to address the newly proposed street maintenance fee structure. This session was an opportunity for our business community to share perspectives directly with city staff. Thank you to everyone who attended and provided feedback for consideration. We will do a separate blog post soon with more information about these fees and how they might impact your business, stay tuned!

This week’s Good Morning Tigard was held at Comfort Zone, a peer run drop-in center offered through New Narrative, a non-profit integrative mental health agency, that allows a space for people to receive support in order to work towards and obtain goals that they set for themselves. We had a good turnout and appreciated learning more about Comfort Zone as a safe space.
