What’s Up, Tigard? – Community Engagement, Local Advocacy and Celebrations!

Welcome to this week’s edition of What’s Up, Tigard?, your Friday rundown of how the Tigard Chamber has been championing local business and community vitality. From energizing networking events to behind-the-scenes advocacy at City Hall and beyond, we’ve packed a lot into the past few days and we’re excited to share the highlights with you. Grab your favorite drink and settle in for a quick read, and see how the Tigard Chamber has been working for you and the broader Tigard community.

Monday was full steam ahead as our CEO Megan sat down with Washington County Commissioner Jason Snider and Tigard Downtown Alliance Executive Director Kyle Knepper to discuss collaboration opportunities specific to Tigard and the downtown corridor. Later that afternoon Megan joined the City of Tigard Parking Meeting where attendees shared feedback about potential updates to the current plan, to be shared in a letter to the City. If you have any questions or concerns about parking, please contact us directly. We would love to hear our members’ position on parking from the business community standpoint.

Participants in our Leadership Tigard program completed their last class on Tuesday and the theme was Public Safety and Judicial System Day. Class highlights included a tour of the Washington County Jail and TVF&R Station 51. The class is looking forward to their graduation on June 17th at 5:00pm at Broadway Rose Theatre.

Our Board of Directors held their regular meeting on Wednesday morning as they prepare for our 2025 Annual Meeting and Volunteer Celebration on June 26th at 7:30am at Broadway Rose Theatre. Visit our website to register if you would like to see what we’ve accomplished in the last year, get a brief overview of where we are going, and celebrate our amazing community of Board Members and Ambassadors.

Makenna attended the Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) Groundbreaking in Tigard for their Woodland Hearth project on Wednesday. It was so wonderful to network with people from the City of Tigard, CPAH and the County! Megan also met with the Executive Director for Explore Tualatin Valley and the City of Tigard to brainstorm the types of industries they would like to attract to Tigard. We are indeed a champion for stronger communities!

Good Morning Tigard was held at Purple City Experience and we added some excitement with a Ribbon Cutting to celebrate their 1-year anniversary! Attendees learned about retreat options and toured the yurt. Later in the day Megan met up with her Executive Director Peer Learning Group where they come together to glean best practices from one another and strategize how to set their respective teams up for success.

Megan joined the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce (OSCC) weekly call on Friday with an update on Oregon State Legislature. There are only a couple more weeks of session!

Let’s talk weekend plans! King City Senior Village will host their Flag Day event on Saturday from 11:00am-2:00pm featuring a BBQ style luncheon, live music, raffles and more! Tigard celebrates its fourth annual Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration at Cook Family Park on Saturday from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Community members of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to join this FREE event for food, live music, entertainment, speakers and more!

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there! Show your father (and local businesses) some love on Sunday – Shop local. Eat local. The Tigard Farmers Market will be in Universal Plaza on Sunday from 9:00am to 1:30pm if you want to treat your dad to some fresh produce, local goods, a cup of coffee or a beautiful bouquet of flowers. There’s something for every dad out there!

That wraps up our week, but the momentum doesn’t stop here. If one of these initiatives sparked an idea, a partnership, or a question, let us know!
